The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT)

SWIFT (The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications) born in 1973 in Brussels, supported by 239 banks from 15 countries, with the goal of creating a system for sending secure messages on international financial transactions. Currently the company is composed of financial institutions with a 7600 average daily volume of 10 million messages

The BIC (Bank Identifier Code) or SWIFT code is the identification code international banking. It is used worldwide. This code is required to send and receive messages such as transfers, remittances for import and export documentary credits, guarantees, etc.



Account numbers SWIFT / BIC, defined by standard ISO 9362. The codes can have a length of 11 or 8 characters whose contents are specified below:

4 characters: Code Bank

2 character ISO country code

2 characters: locality

3 characters: branch

- If a code has 8 characters, will appear in the Bank Code, Country Code and city, and the transfer will be received by the office of the town.

- If a code has 11 characters, display all the fields specified above, please transfer to an office specifically.
